Captain Steve Baran

   CPT Steve Baran is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  He is a graduate of Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA, where he received a Bachelor’s in Business Administration; CPT Baran also has a Master’s in International Relations from Webster University.  He was commissioned through Officer Candidate School in 2004 as a Second Lieutenant in the Infantry.

   CPT Baran’s training and military schools include:  Infantry Officer Basic Course; Airborne School; Ranger School; Finance Captains Career Course; Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution Course; Total Army Instructor Training Course; and Small Group Instructor Training Course.

   CPT Baran has served in leadership and staff positions to include:  Light Infantry Platoon Leader and Executive Officer, Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, Schofield Barracks, HI; Company Executive Officer, Battalion Logistics Officer, and Battalion Operations Planner, 1st Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, Camp Taji, Iraq; and Instructor/Writer, Captains Career Course Common Core, Combined Arms Department, Soldier Support Institute, Fort Jackson, SC.  He deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from December 2007 – February 2009.     CPT Baran’s awards and decorations include:  Bronze Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (2), Iraq Campaign Medal (2), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service (2), Parachutist Badge, Ranger Tab, and the Expert Infantryman’s Badge.

1SG Underwood was born on April 4, 1971 in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He entered the United States Army as a 13B (Cannon Crew Member) on 27 March 1990. Following basic training, he attended Advance Individual Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
1SG Underwood’s previous assignments include: 5th United States Army Field Artillery Detachment, Dunsen, Germany; Bravo Battery, 1st-377th Field Artillery Unit, Fort Campbell, Kentucky, during which he attended Air Assault School; Service Battery, 1st-377th Field Artillery Unit, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; he then decided to change his Military Occupational Specialty from 13B to 14E (Patriot Missile Mechanic), where he went to Advance Individual Training (AIT) at Fort Bliss, Texas; after his AIT, he was then assigned to Bravo 2nd-43rd Air Defense Artillery Unit Fort Bliss, Texas; he was then selected in April 2000 to be a Recruiter and completed the Basic Recruiter Course at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and was assigned to the Mid-Atlantic Recruiting Battalion as a Field Recruiter in Wilmington, Delaware; Columbia Recruiting Battalion as a Field Recruiter at the Florence, South Carolina Recruiting Station; he converted to 79R and got his 1st Station Commander Job at the St. Andrews Recruiting Station in Columbia, South Carolina; Station Commander at the Spartanburg Recruiting Station in Spartanburg, South Carolina; Instructor for the United States Army Recruiting and Retention School at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, he currently serves his country as The 1SG of Charlie Company TSB at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.
1SG Underwood’s military schooling includes the Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic Non Commissioned Officers Course, Advance Non Commissioned Officers Course, Station Commander Course, Guidance Counselor’s Course, Army Recruiting and Management Course, Staff and Faculty Development Training Course, Army Retention Course, NBC Defense Course, Transportation Course, Combat Lifesavers Course, Master Fitness Trainers Course and the Air Assault Course.
1SG Underwood’s awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (2 OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (5 OLC), the Army Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), the National Defense Service Metal with bronze star, the Army Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon (3), the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Gold Recruiter’s Badge and the Air Assault Badge.

1. Soldier that did not successfully graduate/complete any previous MOS.
2. 27D reclass with UCMJ (Pending or Completed)
3. Soldier that already successfully graduated the course they plan to attend.
4. Soldier currently flagged for adverse action.
5. Soldier on temporary profile or undergoing psychological care.

Provide mission command, conduct training, and execute sustainment operations in support of permanent party Soldiers and MOS-Training Soldiers attending MOS and Additional Skill Identifier courses assigned or attached to Charlie Company, Training Support Battalion.
